The much awaited wide screen of the ‘Musical Theatre’ was opened at Dharmarajah  Auditorium on Saturday 7 th September mesmerising the audience with what it offered that was beyond expectation.

 Governor of Central Province , who was the chief guest applauded the organizers with a donation mentioning that he took note  on the worthy cause of this project where the proceeds of the show will be channeled to Cancer Home. (A Rotary Charity project.)

With months of hard work, the coordinator Yohanka Jayasuriya succeeded in putting together a variety of repertories representing classical and oriental music and dance involving professionals and students of Colombo International School, Dharmaraja College, Good Shepherd Convent, Hillwood College, Gateway College, St. Sylvester’s College, St. Anthony’s College, Vidyartha College, Mahamaya College, Girl’s High School, Kingswood College, Green Hill International School and Trinity College. Yohanka Jayasuriya undertook the assignment joining hands with the  Rotary Club of Kandy which is responsible for conducting many charity projects for the benefit of the needy and was ably assisted by music composer, lyricist and song writer Pradeepa Anthony and leading Choir Master Neson George to train the Choir.

  It was a musical extravaganza with facets to suit the different ages of the audience.  Western and Eastern songs from the 70s to 90s presented by talented students and professional artists which were given added value with Spectacular modern Drum Fusion.

Yohanka Jayasuriya’s role as the chief coordinator made this event happen with the full backing of the Rotary Club of Kandy and  well wishers  who were present at the show.

 There were many sponsors namely’ The Office Shop’, ‘Devi Jewellers’ with main funding support coming from  ‘Sun Aqua’ & ‘Soorya’.

‘The brand ‘ Musical Theatre’ is now established, which has gone beyond the normal scope of a musical show and for us ‘ the Mission that was placed before us has been accomplished  thus benefiting a wider spectrum of stakeholders’ says Yohanka Jayasuriya Academy of Music & Dramatic Art (LAMDA), Colombo Academy of Language Skills & Dramatic Art (CALSDA), Institute of English, Music & Speech (IEMS).
