Pathiraja returns with ‘Sakkarang’
View(s):Veteran filmmaker Dr. Dharmasena Pathiraja started shooting his latest film ‘Sakkarang’ based on a novel by Chamminda Welagedara under the same title. The film is being shot in Kandy and Matale. ‘Sakkarang’ was produced by well-known publisher H. D. Padmasiri and Welagedara who also wrote the screenplay. The role of the protagonist is played by Wimal Jayakody, the music direction is by Nadeeka Guruge.
Entered cinema in 1970s pioneering a powerful new genre in filmmaking that captured the social upheaval and political turbulences that prevailed in the era, Dr. Pathiraja directed ‘Ahas Gawwa’ (One League of Sky) and started completely novel journey in Sri Lankan cinema.
After a long silent, Dr. Pathiraja recently completed his latest film ‘Swaroopa’ (Self Image), a story based on world renowned Franz Kafka’s story ‘Metamorphosis’.
