Maligawatte Veterans win Over-40 football title

Maligawatte Veterans Football Club beat Badulla Sports Club by two goals to nil to win the Over-40 Veterans’ Football Championship which was held at the St. Benedict’s College ground in Kotahena.

With the win, Maligawatte Veterans clinached the Thilak Peiris Challenge Trophy and a cash reward of Rs. 100,000 on offer. Badulla SC won the runners-up trophy and a cash reward of Rs. 50,000.

T.R. Rafeek Rinjon was adjudged the Player of the Final in the tournament which attracted a total of 37 teams from all parts of the island. J.D. Faluloon of Badulla SC won the award for Best Goalkeeper of the tournament. Former president of Sri Lanka Veterans’ Sports Association, Thilak Peiris graced the occasion as the chief guest.
