A man who is alleged to have blackmailed dozens of young women by threatening to post their nude pictures on the internet was arrested by undercover sleuths from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) earlier this week.

Police investigations have revealed that the man who posed of as a successful engineer was in fact an accomplished blackmailer who threatened his victims and also forced them to have sex with him.
The 36-year-old suspect was arrested at his home in Kiribathgoda where he was living alone since his wife had left him sometime ago, according to police.

Following a search on his premises police were able to recover some 100 nude and semi nude photographs of women who had been lured to his home over a considerable period of time.

Police said that the pictures of the women, mainly using the wash room, were taken with 26 different miniature cameras hidden and installed in various locations inside his home.

They added that most of the victims were those who had visited his home for various functions where invariably a large number of them would use the washrooms.

The matter was brought to the notice of the police by a beautician residing in the suspect’s immediate neighbourhood.

The beautician was trapped when she helped the suspect for a period of three days at his mother’s almsgiving.

Thereafter the suspect is alleged to have repeatedly demanded sums of money or threatened to have the pictures posted on Facebook. He also demanded sexual favours which the victim reluctantly provided, police said.

After several months of torment the beautician decided that enough was enough and brought the matter to the notice of the local police who handed over the case to the CID.Meanwhile police cautioned the general public particularly young women to be extra cautious of such persons since there has been a high incidence of cases reported to police in various parts of the country.
