The first releases for the year 2013 at the two premier theatres of EAP, Savoy Wellawatta and Liberty Kollupitiya are the American horror film ‘Hansel and Gretel- Witch Hunters’ and ‘Siddhartha the Buddha’.
Produced by The Asylum and directed by Anthony Ferrante ‘Hansel and Gretel’ will be released from January 25 at Savoy cinema.

A modern take of the Brothers Grimm fairytale of the same name, the film stars Dee Wallace, Brent Lydic and Stephanie Greco.

In this dark spin on the fairy tale, siblings Hansel and Gretel are a formidable team of bounty hunters who track and kill witches all over the world. Teen siblings Hansel and Gretel Grimm are abducted by a psychotic recluse named Lilith and witness the horrors of her home in the woods.

The much-awaited movie on the Lord Buddha, an international co-production ‘Siddhartha the Buddha’ will be released on January 25 at the Liberty cinema, Kollupitiya.

Directed by Chandran Rutnam and co-directed by Nepali born Bollywood celebrity Manisha Koirala and Saman Weeraman, the film unravels the extraordinary tale of over 2600 years ago, of a Prince who is endowed with everything he needs and more.

Luxury, palaces and all heart’s desires, are provided to him by his father, a warrior King of the kingdom of Shakya. The story unfolds dramatically with the Prince leaving all his luxuries and possessions as well as his new born son and loving wife, caring parents, to an unknown journey of finding the end to human sorrow and suffering.

In view of the sensitivity of the content of the movie, a directorate comprising international figures both lay and religious who are involved in the audio-visual medium have joined to create the movie.

The chairman of the directorate is Ven. Bhikkhu Mettavihari, who has wide experience in the audio visual media with two Television Channels being operated under his direction. Danish origin Ven. Mettavihari handles ‘Dharmavahini’ an exclusive Buddhist channel and ‘LearnTV’ an exclusive educational channel. He is also responsible for the digital version of the Sri Lankan Tipitaka which is hosted on his website www.metta.lk.

Among the others in the directorate are Chandran Rutnam, an award winning filmmaker of international repute with several films to his credit. Rutnam has been involved as the Line Producer for several Hollywood films spanning over 30 years. He has directed several Local films that have won awards and his latest film ‘Road from Elephant Pass’ has been acclaimed internationally.

Geoff Burton is a leading Cinematographer of distinction in Australia who also Directed several feature Films, Documentaries and TV Movies. He is also a Script writer and a Producer.

Saman Weeraman was responsible for the writing of the initial script and has been incorporated into the Directorate to ensure the authenticity of the content of the Epic Motion Picture.

Manisha Koirala the Bollywood film celebrity also plays a role as a member of the directorate. A worldwide search has been made to attract an international cast for the epic, from Hollywood, Bollywood, Nepal, Bhutan, Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, Australia and Sri Lanka.
