New torch bearers at St. Nicholas’ International School Colombo

“Be a torch bearer whose glowing light shows the path to your fellow students and at the end of your turn pass it on to the next person who takes over from you” was the sublime message of Rev.Fr. David Hore. CssR. to the newly inducted prefects of St. Nicholas’ International College Colombo, when he presided at the special solemn Eucharistic celebration. This was a significant event for the school, as it was the first Eucharistic Celebration for the new Academic Year and also the first event in the school’s Academic Calendar after ANC Education took over the management of the school.

The induction of College Prefects for the new academic year 2012/2013 was held on Friday 14th September on the feast day of the Triumph of the Holy Cross. Nineteen prefects were inducted during this ceremony. Master Glen Ludowyke took oaths as Head Prefect while Ms. Nishara Sangapalaarachchi and Master Zaahil Ahmed A. Zarook were inducted as Deputy Head Prefects. The Principal presided over the induction ceremony in the presence of members of the academic staff, students and parents of the new prefects.

Addressing the students at the General Assembly the Principal said that the supreme quality of leadership is unquestionably integrity and quoting from St. Augustine, Doctor of the Church he said, “Do you wish to rise? Then begin by descending. Do you plan to build a tower to pierce the clouds? Then lay first the foundation of humility.” He encouraged the newly inducted prefects to accept their new role in a spirit of humility.
