Textured Jersey Lanka creates Mercantile Cricket history

Textured Jersey Lanka PLC, Sri Lanka’s leading producer of value-added knitted fabric, has created history in Mercantile Cricket in Sri Lanka by becoming the only team to have won the championships in 2 different divisions within the same calendar year. Textured Jersey maintained an unbeaten record winning all 10 matches in division F to emerge champions during the first half of 2011 having beaten Aitken Spence in the final.

This was followed by the Championship in division D more recently, when Textured Jersey overcame Softlogic Holdings PLC in the finals. Textured Jersey won 15 out of the 16 matches played during this calendar year. Textured Jersey Captain, Nuwan Alahakoon was adjudged the Best Batsman of the Tournament in division F for his consistent performance with the bat having accumulated 604 runs inclusive of 2 centuries and 4 half centuries.

Rangeeth Peries was adjudged the Man of the Match in both the finals, for his brilliant century in the F division final followed by a super knock of 67 not out in the D division final. Both Nuwan and Rangeeth were the consistent performers with the bat for Textured Jersey in both tournaments. Nalaka Amarakoon and Samantha Gunasekara exceled with the ball in both the tournaments, while Tharaka Dinesh and Kosala Jayasekara were the other best performers in both tournaments with their all-round efforts.

Mercantile Cricket at Textured Jersey was initiated 6 years ago with the intention of encouraging outstation talent from within the company. It is pertinent to note that there are no professional cricketers playing for the team. This is part of Textured Jersey’s continuous journey in making better lives and a better world by helping out the needy and the talented to come forward in life. Most of the members in the cricket team represent the outstation youth with enormous talent and the company is constantly trying to identify more youth from outstation to give a hand in realizing their dreams in the sporting arena.
