Spinner Komasaru sends Police reeling

Premier Tier ‘B’ Limited Over
By M. Shamil Amit

The Premier Limited Over cricket tournament for the season 2011/12 got underway yesterday with four matches in the Premier Tier ‘B’ category being worked off at four venues around Colombo.
In the match at Police Park there was a fine bowling performance by left arm spinner Chanaka Komasaru of Sri Lanka Ports Authority who ended up with impressive figures of 6 for 19 in his ten overs.

BRC batsman Andy Solomons made a good half century against Army

This sent Police reeling to a lowly 101 and thus paved the way for his side’s five wicket victory.

Sri Lanka Port Authority (in previous seasons they played as Seeduwa/Raddoluwa CC) in their run chase had little difficulty in reaching the required target as they needed only 32.4 overs to coast home to a five wicket win.

BRC despite a fighting knock of 61 by Andy Solomons went down to Army by four wickets at the BRC ground. BRC taking first lease of the wicket were struggling on 35 for 5 in the 16th over before Solomons’ knock helped them make a decent 128.

In the match between Navy and Panadura at Welisara, a knock of 111 by opener Dilan Chandima was the highlight in the morning session. A hat-trick by right arm pacie Narada Ratnayake and 102 by Sajith Kelumpriya of Kurunegala YCC against Air Force was in vain as it could not prevent them from undergoing a 22 run defeat in the match at Rifle Green. Air Force taking first lease of the wicket made 223 while Kurunegala YCC in reply was able to muster only 201.

Today there are four matches in the Premier Tier ‘A’ down for decision. The scheduled matches are: Tamil Union vs Badureliya CC at P. Sara Stadium, NCC vs SSC at NCC, Bloomfield vs Ragama CC at Reid Avenue and Colts vs Chilaw Marians at Colts.
