House Pegasus flies high

Wycherley Athletic meet

Pegasus House emerged overall champions at the annual inter-house athletic meet of Wycherly International School which was held at NCC ground in Colombo on October 25. The winners thus won the C.T.A. Schafter Challenge Trophy outsmarting, houses Apollo, Athena and Triton on a day where athletes of Wycherly displayed their skills on the track and field.

Senali de Silva won the best performance for girls for her record breaking performance in high jump of 1.24 metres while Vishma de Silva was awarded the best performance trophy for boys for his performances in the 400metres and 800metres sprints. Sajaad Mufalil won the open boy’s championship while Keyomi Gunaratne and Thilani Vijekumar shared the honours in the girls’ open category. The Junior and Senior Relay Trophies went to Pegasus House.

Champions Pegasus also won the award given to the Best Drill Squad while in the march past the trophy went to Triton House. The drill display performed by the children of Grades three to five had a partaking of over a hundred students who were vividly dressed in their respective house colours. The Hewisi Band of Grades six to eight led the march past squads, to end the day’s proceedings with the awards ceremony.

This event is held annually as a competition among the four Houses that categorize the students for sports activities. The house committees of Apollo, Athena, Pegasus and Triton worked hard in getting the students brushed up for competitions. The event saw all the four house committees come together while displaying a true spirit of harmony and solidarity, to run a healthy competition. The main challenge trophy has been donated to the school by its founder Chairman, Chandra Schafter, a well known athlete in his days and a renowned sports administrator in the country.
