St. Thomas Matara Down Siri Piyarathana

By P. D. de Silva

Intelligent batting by No 7 batsman Ravindu Chathura (42 not out from 78 balls and No 10 batsman Heshan Hasanka 33 n.o) enabled St. Thomas’ College Matara to win the Under 15 Division One pre-quarter final against Sri Piyarathana Central Padukka at the Sanath Jayasuriya Grounds Matara.
Siri Piyarathana captain Ashen Abeykoon won the toss and batted first in a game reduced to 43 overs per side due to the dampness of the ground. They were bowled out for 146 runs in 36.3 overs with Lasith Lakshan, the Thomian skipper claiming three wickets for 22 runs.

Heshan Hasanka and Vidath Rajapakse took two wickets each. Vishwa Rajapakse took the bowling apart by scoring a bright 39 runs with two boundaries and three sixes. The Thomians were in dire straits at 38 for six with their main batting hope Lasith Lakshan caught for five runs.

STC Matara will meet Dharmapala College Pannipitiya at the Moors Grounds on September 12 in a quarter-final game. Siri Piyarathana 146 in 36.3 overs (Vishwa Rajapaksa 39, Charith Athukorale 34, Mihiran Wijesuriya 22; Lasith Lakshan 3 for 22, Heshan Hasanka 2 for 14, Vidath Jayanidu 2 for 26)
St. Thomas’ Matara 147 for 8 in 41,2 overs (Ravindu Chathurtha 42 n.o Heshan Hasanka 33 n.o. Osanda Gamage 16; Ashen Abeykoon 3 for 42, Kasun Ashara 2 for 23)
