Twelve schools in the fray

Western Province under 18 Rugby Tournament

The Western Province Rugby Football Union (WPRFU) under 18 XV a side rugby tournament which commenced on Friday, will go on till the 24th September with the participation of twelve schools in the fray playing in four groups.

The preliminary round match will be worked off from the 19th at the Havelocks SC Grounds and then move also to the Science College Grounds, Mt. Lavinia on the 24th and 30th. From the 24th and the 30th five matches will be worked off every day with three matches at one venue and two at the other.
This tournament will be sponsored by Asian Finance Limited for the next 3 years in order to promote junior rugby in the Western Province. WPRFU which has the largest number of rugby players which consists of 15 clubs and 35 schools playing from junior to senior level.
Inter Schools Under 18 XV Tournament groupings are as following

Group A - Sceince, Lalith Athuladmudali, Hindu College,Group B - Thurstan, Lumbini, S.De.S Jayasinghe M M V,Group C - C.W.W Kannangara M M V, Piliyandala M M V, Dharmapala M V and Moratuwa MV,Group D - D.S Senanayake, Ananda, Veluwana MV,The draw from the 24th will read as:

24th August: At Science College Grounds: Moratu MV vs Piliyandala MMV at 3 p.m,CWW Kannangara MMV vs Dharmapala MV Pannipitiya 4.15 p.m,Lalith Athulathmudali vs Hindu College Colombo at 5.30 p.m At Havelock Park: Ananda vs Veluwana at 3.p.m, Lumbini vs S. de S. Jayasinghe MMV at 4.15 p.m, 30th August: At Science College Grounds: Dharmapala vs Moratu MV at 3 p.m, CWW Kannangara MMV vs Piliyandala MMV at 4.15 p.m, Science College vs Lalith Athulathmudali MV at 5.p.m, At Havelock Park: Thurstan vs Lumbini at 3 p.m, D.S. Senanayake vs Ananda at 4.15 p.m,The quarter finals of the cup championship will be worked off on September 7 and 8 while the semi-final match es will be played on September 13. The final will be worked off on September 24 at 4.45 p.m.
