Top seeds advance at Tennis Nationals

Top seeds made their progress towards the next round on the opening day of the 96th Tennis Nationals which began at the hard courts of the Sri Lanka Tennis Association in Colombo yesterday. Top seed T. Dineshkanthan who received a bye in the first round beat Raaid Sahabdeen comfortably in the second round to advance further in the tournament where almost 100 participants are taking part. H.A.M. Dhamruwan received a no-show win from his opponent Eroo Samarasinghe. The Tennis Nationals will continue until August 26 at the same venue.

Yesterday’s results:
Men’s Singles: Heera Ashiq beat Chehan Fernando 4-1, Taveer Ashiq beat K. Udayakumar 2-1, Shabeer Huzair beat Sandesh Mendis 4-2, Hemal Wickremasinghe beat M.D.L. Fernando 0-0, Dhanushka Abeywardana beat T. Pahirathan 5-2, T. Dineshkanthan beat Raaid Sahabdeen 1-0.
Over-35 Singles: Ravi Subramaniam beat Trinesh Fernando 0-0, T.P. Gamage beat Chandana Rajaguru 1-1, Sunil Rajapakse beat Gavin Perera 1-1, L.F.N. Senanayake beat Laksiri Peiris 4-2.
