University of Colombo clinches overall championship

This year 14 universities from across the island participated in the foremost sports competition in the university championship. They participated in 34 sports to reach the ultimate goal of attaining the coveted title becoming the overall championships. This year the games continued for 8 weeks with many sporting events being scattered across the island, from Jaffna, Colombo, Ruhuna, Moratuwa, Matara, Kelaniya, Sri Jayawardenapura to Oluvil.

The university of Colombo emerged victorious in this battle to become the leader of sport among the universities at the inter university championship 2011 and successfully defended their position at the pinnacle as the overall championships through spirited performances from both the men's and women's teams, proving that teamwork is the ingredient of their success.

The overall champions maintained their stronghold by emerging victorious in the events of Cricket, Baseball Rowing (men and women), table tennis (men and women), Taekwondo women, Swimming women, tennis women, Netball and chess women.

This has been the fourth consecutive year the university of Colombo has prevailed as the overall champions at inter university championship.
