MSU's Medical Science alternative to medical profession

The Management & Science University (MSU) is one of Malaysia's top universities. It provides specialised programmes of studies in the areas of medicine, health sciences, business, management, information sciences, engineering, education and hospitality.

As one of Malaysia's top universities, MSU has received recognition from the Malaysian and international bodies. It is rated as an "Excellent University" by the Ministry of Higher Education of Malaysia through a rating system done on all Malaysian universities. MSU is ranked one of the top private universities in the world through an accreditation exercise by the Accreditation Services for International Colleges (ASIC), UK. It is also ranked as one of Malaysia's top five private universities through an establishment audit done by Ernst & Young. Despite future assurance in the field of Medicine, many aspiring to become medical doctors or dentists failed to realise their dreams as there are insufficient places available for pursuing such specialized programmes.

However at the Management & Science University (MSU), you will find alternative career opportunities in medicine through the Bachelor's degree and diploma programme in the area of Medical Science. The programme is aimed to provide candidates with the knowledge, skills and attitude to enable them to contribute to future progress in understanding, diagnosing, caring and curing. The graduates from this programme may also further their studies towards Master's, doctorate level or pursue a professional degree in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy through MSU's International Student Exchange Programme (ISEP).

Upon completing the programme, job opportunities exist in medical research in the pharmaceutical companies, diagnostic laboratories, biotechnology laboratories and hospitals. Openings exist in forensic lab, veterinary medicine, food manufacture, medical publishing etc. Those interested in teaching can have an academic career in colleges and universities. The Biomedical Science programme also helps students in working closely with physicians in providing a wide variety of healthcare services. This programme also can be a good foundation course for MBBS.

With the paradigm shift towards graduate entry for medical schools globally, this programme proved to be pertinent and essential for students to pave their way to do medicine or dentistry. Graduates not intending to pursue in medicine will find themselves better opportunity to be selected and play managerial posts in the workforce.

Those who have interest in education will find ample opportunities to be recruited as tutors in health related education programmes. They could also venture into health journalism and embark into medical researches as Research Assistants.

Alternatively, the ISEPs at MSU assist students towards enriching their academic pursuits at the international level. Through ISEP students may choose one of over 40 universities located in the USA, UK, Australia, Eastern Europe, South Africa, Japan, New Zealand, India, and Indonesia to complete their degrees. The opportunity to study at these universities will further enrich the students' development and enhance their standings for a better career prospect.

The emphasis on programmes which are industry relevant has always been MSU central tenets. A symbiosis between academic curriculum and industrial shifts has been crucial in determining the relevancy of its product to current trends. MSU is committed at ensuring the best for its students. A comprehensive range of visiting professors who conduct regular semester visits provide valuable inputs to students. Further, various skills enhancement programmes which are aimed to improve competitiveness are offered.
