It’s dancing time in Colombo

Dance fever is about to hit Colombo as dancers and dance enthusiasts get ready for the 4th Footwork International Dancesport Championship to be held on Sunday, 10 October at the Hilton.

The Championship is produced by Footwork, who have to date produced a total of 15 local championships and 3 international championships. On par with past Championships, the upcoming competition promises to be a spectacular event. The event organizer is Dharshan Wijesooriya who has been spearheading Footwork Events from its inception.

The event will feature some of the best dance couples from the Asian region. Sri Lanka will be bringing a strong team to the championship with competitors from all leading dance schools in the country taking part. The adjudicating panel will consist of representatives from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Macau, Indonesia, Korea, China, Philippines and Taiwan.

The primary objective of the Dancesport Championships produced by Footwork has always been to promote Dancesport in Sri Lanka and give our dancers the opportunity to experience the international standards of dance. This year’s Championship is no exception and every effort will be made to produce an unforgettable experience for both audience and competitors.

The Championship will be made up of eighteen events. Both the Standard (Ballroom) section and the Latin American section will comprise of nine events each – Solo, Freshers, Junior under 12, Senior over 45, Novices, Pre-Amateur and Amateur. The Juniors under 12 event is a category that has not been included in any of the recent championships and it is heartening to be able to open up the category again to our young dancers.

The 4th Footwork International Dancesport Championship 2010 Sri Lanka is an even wholly endorsed by Sri Lanka Tourism. The Print Media Sponsors are Sunday Times and Daily Mirror. The Official Hotel is Hilton Colombo.
