Raveena shines

Talented young Raveena Sumathipala from Sirimavo Bandaranaike Balika Vidyalaya proved her mettle when took home the Championship Plate at the recent Asian Junior Squash Championships, held here in Sri Lanka.

Raveena competed in the Under 16 age category and played valiantly before falling to a player from Japan. In the plate championship finals she beat fellow Sri Lankan, Lasnee Kulathunga, 11/6, 4/11, 4/11, 13/11, 12/10. Out of all the Sri Lankan players that competed in the tournament, Raveena progressed furthest.

Raveena’s father, Upul Sumathipala says he encouraged his daughter to focus harder on the game after a knowledgeable squash personality noticed her prodigious talent.
