New Pole-Vault Record

Major W.T.G. Abeywardena

Major W.T.G. Abeywardena of the Sri Lanka Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers set up a new Pole Vault Record at the Sri Lanka Masters’ Athletics 24th annual Open Championships held at the Sugathadasa Stadium where even leading athletes from India participated.

Major Abeywardena has now qualified to represent Sri Lanka at the Veteran’s Asian Athletic Meet to be held in Malaysia in December. Maj Abeywardena’s feat is considered great taking into consideration that there are no up-to-date facilities for sports in the areas he is serving.
