Jeewantha guides Wayamba to victory

Jeewantha Kulatunga after his success in T20 tournament continued his prolific form with another fine batting performance when he slammed a 101 ball knock of 100 to guide Wayamba to a seven wicket win over Basnahira South in their four day Bank of Ceylon Inter-Provincial cricket match played at the Pallekelle Stadium.

Jeewantha’s unbeaten knock included ten boundaries and three sixes as Wayamba chasing 224 for victory reached the target in just 38.5 overs and also with a day to spare. Wayamba’s run chase underwent a setback when they lost two quick wickets with just eight runs on the board. It was from here that Jeewantha took over when he put on two valuable partnerships.

In the first instance he put on 108 runs for the third wicket with skipper Jehan Mubarak before they were separated with Jehan’s dismissal. Jehan contributed 61 which had ten boundaries. Following that Jeewantha was associated in an unbroken 110 runs stand for the fourth wicket with Damitha Hunukumbura who made an unbeaten 55 off just 49 balls which included ten boundaries.

MAS Holdings Kandurata made a bold reply of 495 for 4 in reply to Basnahira North’s score of 530 at the end of the third day’s play in their Bank of Ceylon Inter-Provincial four day encounter played at Braybrooke Place.

Kandurata’s reply came on the back of three tons by opener Nadeera Nawela, Thilan Samaraweera and Jeewan Mendis. Nadeera made 113 with Thilan and Jeewan making unbeaten knocks of 160 and 136.
Thilan and Jeewan were involved in an unbroken partnership of 247 runs for the fifth wicket. The match will be continued at 10.00 a.m. today.
