The British Council/Mobitel Grammar Quest Finals on November 2

Nouns, adverbs and adjectives will be the order of the day as four schools compete in the British Council/Mobitel Grammar Quest finals to be held on November 2 2009 at the British Council, Kandy.
Twenty one schools participated in the preliminary rounds of this first Grammar Quest which was organised as part of the 60th anniversary celebrations of the British Council in Sri Lanka. It was sponsored by Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel - the national mobile service provider and the official sponsor of the Sri Lanka Cricket Team.

It was encouraging to see many students from local national and international schools taking part in the competition, a spokesperson for the British Council commented. At the end of four closely contested preliminary rounds, the schools that qualified to enter the finals were Pushpadana Girls' College, Kandy, Royal International, Kurunegala, St. Anthony's Girls' College, Kandy and Royal English School, Matale.

With the aim of enhancing the knowledge of English among the participants, the judges, from both Sri Lanka and UK, provided tips on the usage of the correct forms and tenses of grammar, and also shared some thoughts on learning English and learning about English.

Aimed at educating the younger generations of the correct use of English Grammar and in support of promoting the Government initiated 'Year of English and IT', the Grammar Quest is billed to become an annual event in the British Council yearly calendar.
