All tourist establishments offering ayurveda treatment services have been asked to register with the Department of Ayurveda, in addition to registering with the national tourism authorities.
Registering with the Department of Ayurveda is expected to help improve the quality of ayurveda services offered by the local tourism industry. Currently ayurveda services are offered by many hotels and resorts but these services are not subjected to monitoring of service standards.
“This is a measure to enhance the quality of ayurveda services offered in Sri Lanka. We have to maintain good quality standards in these services because India is also offering ayurveda services and we must offer a competitive product. Registering with the Department of Ayurveda will help the establishments providing these services improve the quality of their services, because the Ayurveda Department can help them in technical areas and can even provide training,” said Tourism Ministry Secretary, K.A.D. George Michael.
Over 60 tourism establishments are offering ayurveda services at the moment. The Ministry of Tourism is also drafting a new set of regulations, with the Department of Ayurveda, to ensure quality standards in ayurveda services in the tourism sector. Another growing tourism service – Spas – will also be asked to register with the tourism authorities soon. |
