Scorer Claude de Silva needs your help!
By Dr. Ajith C. S. Perera
Very many of the cricket loving public of the by-gone era, especially the illustrious cricketers produced by the N.C.C., are certain to remember Claude de Silva.

It is very sad that the untiring and admirable services rendered by Claude to the game as a Scorer seem to have been written on sand. With utmost commitment and total dedication, he kept meticulously all cricketing records for the N.C.C. over several decades. His competence earned him some opportunity to score at few international matches at a time when such games were very few in number.

Claude de Silva (N.C.C.) and Faleel Kiyath (Bloomfield) are the only surviving scorers from the by-gone era.

Today Claude, in his twilight years, lives with his wife Pearl has ailed for the past ten years with several medical complications including backbone degeneration. They have no proper place to live or any regular monthly income on which to survive. Claude is also yet to recover from a recent nasty road accident that occurred on the yellow lines at Thudella, Ja-ela.

He makes a desperate appeal for possible financial support to meet at least their essential monthly medical expenditure to the total value of Rupees Eight Thousand Five Hundred (8,500/-) (which is backed by supporting documentary evidence from Dr. Ananda Perera, a leading Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon, and his Family Physician, Dr. D.Y. Saranathilake at Suwa Sarana Hospital, Tewatte, Ragama).

Claude resides at: No: 42 / B, Sasana Thilakarathna Mawatha (at its hill top), Yagodamulla, Kotugoda. His two bank accounts - which have a total balance of a paltry sum of Rs. 270/ - are (i). HNB - Head Office): 02 - 074297 - 6SA and (ii). NSB - Mahabage Branch: 0083 / 02 / 41474.
