Swadeshi honours heroes

Two popular teledramas based on the heroes and historic events in Sri Lanka have won accolades for Independent Television Network (ITN), in the form of a special Merit Award at the recently held Raigam Tele Awards.

Sudath Rohana's 'Utuvan Kande Saradiel', the epic teledrama about the daring folk hero of the 19th century and 'Mahthala Hatana', a tele series focusing on the Matale uprising against the repressive rule of the British are the two teledramas that brought honour to ITN.

Both the dramas are sponsored by Sri Lanka's herbal based personal care manufacturer Swadeshi Industrial Works Ltd and the awards have recognized the value of the two teledramas in promoting local heroes and historic events.

"As a company which values local heritage, Swadeshi is committed to creating awareness about historic events and local heroes of the past to educate the younger generation on the country's heritage, culture and values," a spokesperson for Swadeshi said.
