The University Grants Commission (UGC) is seeking a guarantee from students at the Peradeniya University that no ragging will take place, so lectures can be resumed.

UGC Chairman Sampath Amaratunge said they will be giving one more opportunity for the students to give a guarantee to resolve the dispute that started off about three weeks back.

He said they would not hesitate to confine lectures to online sessions if the students could not resolve the matter.

He also said the Police too had not taken the matter seriously and referred the complaint to the Reconciliation Board.
