KDU and the University of Calgary, Canada establishes formal ties

General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) and University Calgary Canadasigned an MoU on 21st September toestablish formal ties between two Universities.

The MoU was signed by the Vice Chancellor of KDU, Major General Milinda Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP, ndc, psc, MPhil and the Vice-Provost and Associate Vice-President Research (International), Prof. Janaka Ruwanpura, in a hybrid ceremony attended by Sri Lanka’s Minister of Education, Dr. Susil Premajayantha, and His Excellency the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in Canada, Mr. Harsha Kumara Navaratne.

In his remarks, the vice chancellor praised Prof Ruwanpura’s dedication and the assistance provided by the Canadian mission in Colombo in making this MoU a success. He continued to state that he expects to expand the relationship with other Canadian universities with the support from the Canadian mission in Colombo and the Sri Lankan mission in Toronto.

Prof. Janaka Ruwanpura, Vice-Provost and Associate Vice-president Research (International), University of Calgary, also spoke at the event, thanking the Vice Chancellor of KDU for the friendship. He also emphasised the significance of two universities working more closely and amicably together for mutual benefit.

Honorable Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha addressed the gathering, emphasising the importance of research for the country’s development and the benefits of university collaborations.

Prof. Janaka Ruwanpura, the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in Canadaand honourable Minister of Education of Sri Lanka joined the MoU signing ceremony virtually from Canada.While the Vice Chancellor of KDU was joined by theDVC (academic) Prof KAS Dhammika, the Dean Faculty of Defence and Strategic Studies, Dean Faculty of Engineering, Dean Research & Development, Director International Relations, Head of the Department Defence and Strategic studies and the Deputy Registrar.
