A president, PM and cabinet within 48 hours

A new President, Prime Minster and a cabinet were sworn in within a span of 48 hours during the week.
Ranil Wickremesinghe was elected as the country’s 8th Executive President by Parliament on Wednesday by a majority of 52 votes. Mr. Wickremesinghe polled 134 votes while his challengers Dullas Alahapperuma and Anura Dissanayake polled 82 and 3 votes respectively.
Mr Wickremesinghe was sworn in as as President on Thursday at the Parliament complex.
On Friday, Leader of the House and Mahajana Eksath Peramuna Leader Dinesh Gunawardena was sworn in as the new Prime Minister in front of President Wickremesinghe in a ceremony held at the Prime Minister’s Office.
After the swearing in of the new PM, President Wickremesinghe also swore in a new 18 member Cabinet.
