Discussions were held recently between Sri Lankan Ambassador Shobini Gunasekera, TESDA Deputy Director General Anice Bertiz on June 3 at the Sri Lankan Embassy in Manila, about introducing a training programme for Sri Lankan migrant workers for better employability.

The Sri Lankan Embassy in Manila, together with the relevant stakeholders such as Colombo Plan Staff College (CPSC) in Manila, Skills Development, Vocational Education, Research and Innovation State Ministry, Department of Technical Education and Training (DTET), Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC), National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA) and Sri Lankan Embassy in Riyadh, participated in a hybrid exploratory meeting conducted by Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) of the Philippines on June 8 at the TESDA Central Office in Taguig City.

The session was chaired by TESDA Executive Director for Partnerships and Linkages Sonia S. Lipioand. Several TESDA Executive Directors from the Certification Office, Qualification and Standards Office and Planning Office, also attended.

The objectives of the discussions were to explore possible avenues for cooperation with TESDA on the up skilling and reskilling of Sri Lanka’s migrant labour force through technical vocational exchange and a standardisation qualification process.

Skills Development and Vocational Education, Research and Innovations State Ministry Secretary Deepa Liyanage, and other DTET, TVEC and NAITA officials were keen to engage with TESDA to holistically develop the TVET system of the country.
