The pathway is a joint collaboration between PCHE and the Faculty of Arts and Education, at Deakin University. Faculty colleagues at the School of Education are welcoming the students to Deakin via an informal lunch upon their arrival on campus.

Dathri De Silva, a past pupil of Ladies’ College Colombo shared her views about the programme. ‘I love working with kids and found that a degree in early childhood education would enable me to fulfill my dream of becoming an effective early childhood educator. Therefore, I enrolled for the Diploma in Early Childhood Education at Prospects College of Higher Education (PCHE), as I wanted to complete the pathway programme in Sri Lanka and continue at Deakin from the second year onwards. The curriculum was comprehensive and covered diverse topics. The lecturers at Prospects gave me all the support to complete the programme and I received exemptions for the first year of the Bachelor’s in Early Childhood and Primary Education at Deakin University, Australia.

Currently I am studying at Deakin and I am excited to complete my degree at a world class university. I enjoy the subjects and the different methods of learning. Thank you Prospects and Deakin for all the support to make my dream come true!

Lisini Wijesekara, a past pupil of Musaeus College spoke about her experience in the programme, ‘I joined PCHE after completing my A/L’s. The practical exposure, experience, and opportunities which I received throughout the Diploma in Early Childhood Education, which included placements at well-equipped preschools, prepared me well to commence the 2nd year of the Bachelor of Early Childhood Education at Deakin University. The lecturers as well as the Director of Academics of PCHE, personally supported, guided, and motivated me throughout my learning journey. I’m glad I chose Prospects College and Deakin University and have no hesitation in recommending this programme to anyone who is interested to pursue a career in Early Childhood Education.

Kalmalee Perera, also a past pupil of Musaeus College further elaborated on the programme, ‘I recently arrived at Deakin University, Melbourne Australia, and what a journey it has been. It all began when I enrolled at PCHE to pursue a Diploma in Early Childhood Education, leading to a bachelor’s degree at Deakin University. I had a limited knowledge regarding the subject areas; however, the lecturers lead by the Director of Academics were very helpful, friendly, and approachable and enhanced my knowledge in early childhood education and provided me with invaluable, in-depth insights regarding this industry. It made me realise what an important role an early childhood educator plays in providing a strong foundation, guiding, and molding a child. The global recognition they receive, as well as the opportunities available in Australia and globally are immense for early childhood educators, which is indeed a rewarding career. I also learnt that I could work in other areas such education, management, and Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) after completing the degree, which provides a wide scope for diverse career pathways. I received a scholarship to pursue my 2nd and 3rd years of the bachelor’s degree at Deakin University. I’m very grateful and thankful to the lecturers and staff at PCHE and Deakin University, for making my dream a reality. I would like to wish all the new students who are enrolled in the programme, the very best, and I’m sure that they too would achieve their dreams.

The next intake commences in September 2022. Registrations are now accepted. Students with pending A/L results can also apply. Students after O/L’s can apply for the Foundation programme and transfer to the degree pathway on successful completion.
