Prospects College of Higher Education (PCHE) offers a unique Foundation programme in Early Childhood Education, for students who have completed their O/L’s. The programme is 6 months in duration, and upon successful completion, students can enroll for the Diploma in Early Childhood Education at PCHE, and transfer to Deakin University Melbourne, Australia to complete a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education, with 1 year of guaranteed credit exemptions, on successful completion of the Diploma.

This pathway, which is a result of a partnership between Prospects College of Higher Education (PCHE) and Deakin University, Australia, enables students to save time and a considerable amount of money, which amounts to over Rs. 13 million. Considering the current situation in the country, due to the depreciation of the Rupee, this would be an ideal option for students and a relief for parents. Those who perform well in the PCHE programmes will also be eligible for scholarships, awarded by Deakin University, Australia.

Early Childhood Educator is a very lucrative career in Australia, with jobs widely available in most parts of Australia. The demand for qualified Early Childhood Educators has steadily increased over the years and is projected to further increase in the future as well. The average starting salary of an Early Childhood Educator is approximately over AUD 6,000 per month. Graduates of the Bachelor of Early Childhood Education programme can teach in the early childhood sector in Australia.

The Foundation programme consists of modules which are focused on literacy and numeracy as well as Early Childhood Education specific modules, which introduce this field of study. After students successfully complete the Foundation and progress to the Diploma, they are required to complete a 270-hour work placement in a pre-school, which is arranged by PCHE. This provides them with invaluable work experience and an insight into the practical components of Early Childhood Education, which will hold them in good stead when they progress to Australia. It would also help them in securing part-time employment in the Early Childhood sector. After students progress to Deakin University Australia, to complete the final 2 years of the Bachelors degree, they will be required to undertake a work placement, in the Early Childhood sector, which is arranged by Deakin University. Students who do well in their work placements are often offered employment opportunities by the same organisation once they complete their degree. Students are entitled to a 2-year post study work permit, after they successfully complete their studies in Australia.

The next intake of the PCHE Foundation in Early Childhood Education commences in July 2022. Students can apply with pending O/L results. Contact 972 83333 87 Prospects College of Higher Education (PCHE) No. 82, Baudhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 04. info@pche.lk  www.pche.lk
