The closing date for students to register themselves with their respective state universities has been extended until December 16, by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

It was earlier announced that the closing date was December 10, but on Friday the UGC announced that the deadline had been extended by six days.

Registration of students who qualified to gain admission to state universities based on their results at the 2020 GCE A/L exams began on November 26.

More than 190,000 candidates qualified for university admission from a total of 301,771 candidates who sat the 2020 A/Level exams. The numbers include 277,625 students under the new syllabus and 24,146 students under the old syllabus.

The exams were delayed due to the COVID-19 situation in the country, and accordingly they were held from October 12 to November 6 last year. This resulted in a delay in university admissions as well.

Last year’s A/Level exam results were released in early May this year, while the Z-scores were released in late October.
