A 100-day crash programme to complete the syllabus for students who missed on educational activities due to the COVID-19 pandemic has been launched by the Education Ministry recently.

Under the programme, which is scheduled to be completed in 20 weeks, classes which have resumed academic activities need to ensure that students have a sufficient knowledge of what they should have learned during this year, a senior Education Ministry official said.

“There is no use of students moving to the next grade without the knowledge they should have gained in the previous class,” he said.

The National Institute of Education and the Education Reforms, Open Universities and Distance Learning Promotion State Ministry are also involved preparing the syllabus.

Another official said they may be forced to have extra classes as well to complete the syllabus, as many subjects have not been completed.

There will also be a problem in accommodating students selected to grade one as teachers will be  busy completing the syllabus for the grade one students selected for this year, when the new entrants are due to start their classes, he added.

Meanwhile with the differing of the grade five scholarship exam and the GCE O/L and A/L exams till next year, teachers have been requested to complete the syllabus for these exams as well.
