The Online Foundation: Providing laptops and tabs for underprivileged students

The Online Foundation, a new welfare programme, began their first initiative to supply students with the necessary equipment for online learning recently. Founded by Tharindhu Peries and his team, they aim to provide laptops and tabs with an internet connection to students who are unable to afford these devices for online learning.

With donations, they purchase laptops which are then provided to these beneficiaries who in turn can access online learning. This programme was created to help families affected by the pandemic so the children can access online classes which have become the new norm of learning. These laptops were given to students who had excelled in their studies, after they achieved the best results in their respective examinations.

COVID-19 has greatly impacted the education sector and many students were forced
to switch from learning in physical classes to online learning. It is required for students to have technological devices such as a
laptop or a tab and
an internet connection. Unfortunately many students in Sri Lanka cannot afford these facilities.

Many students have been unable to attend online classes and this has hindered their education as they have missed out on many lessons. The programme aims to make sure these children have enough support to continue their primary and secondary education.
