University examinations for final year students at the University of Kelaniya’s (UoK) faculties of arts and social sciences will begin on Monday (February 1), under COVID-19 health guidelines.

The university announced that only students who are sitting for these examinations can report to their respective hostels from 8.00am to 6.00pm today (Jan 31).

The university administration said the examinations would be held under COVID-19 prevention guidelines issued by the Health Ministry along with recommendations made by the university’s COVID prevention committee.

It noted that certain people had spread false reports via social media in recent weeks regarding the examination, causing anxiety and distress among students and their parents. The university said all necessary steps had been taken to ensure that the final year examinations were held in a safe and secure atmosphere and it urged students not to be misled by false reports.

The examinations at the university would be held in several stages, with exams for the Bachelor of Arts (Special) Degree and Bachelor of Arts (General) Degree final year students to begin on February 1. Year end examinations for other students would be held once these exams conclude, the university said.
