A student database to be set up for Surkasha Student Insurance scheme

The Education Ministry will soon prepare a student database, which will help assist the students and the Ministry to clear Suraksha Insurance claims.

Accordingly, from Grade One onwards students would be issued an insurance number, enabling education authorities to take up action based on one particular number.  The database would assist the Ministry in maintaining the previous records of students. Around 4.4 million students would be registered in it.  Last year, the claims of 74,000 students amounting to Rs. 3,100 million was paid under the scheme. Education Ministry officials said it would also be convenient for students and parents to follow up with the same number assigned to them.

The insurance scheme would be renewed for the next academic year and students would be eligible for more benefits. -C
