The younger generation’s addiction to mobile phones is a major cause for concern, says Chief of Staff and  Deputy Secretary-General of Parliament, Neil Iddawala.

Delivering a speech as chief guest at the sports meet of the Maliyadeva College, his alma mater, Mr. Iddawala said it was necessary to wean them away from  their sedentary lifestyles and encourage them to engage in more outdoor activities and sports.

He said that studies must be balanced with an  active lifestyle if children were to grow up as well-rounded human beings.

“Life is like a relay race and it is important  to run fast in the right direction. Sometimes when you are on the wrong track, it is important  to get back on the right  track and move ahead,” he said.

Principal of the School, Saman Indraratne said that for the past 132 years, Maliyadeva has nurtured its students to be good citizens  of the country and will continue to bring up disciplined and well-rounded citizens.
