The University of Peradeniya recently presented 156 awards to staff who had served 25-40 years at the University.

The awards were presented by Peradeniya University Vice Chancellor Prof Upul B Dissanayake.

The Vice Chancellor said the university valued the contribution of eminent men and women who had contributed to the enhancement of the university for many years. He pointed out that there should be a bond between all staff members within the university, in order to maintain its good name.

Some of those who were presented awards were retired, while others were still in service. A M Abeykoon was the only staff member who had served the university for 40 years.   The University’s Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof S H P Parakrama Karunaratne, Acting Registrar Saman Rajapakse and Acting Chief Librarian R Maheswaran were present at the event.

The University Joint Trade Unions Chairman G K Ruwan Gajanayake also addressed the participants and the invitees at the event.
