The Institute of Chemistry Ceylon, the successor to the chemical society of Ceylon, has been a pioneer in chemical science elevation since 1941. It was established under the act of parliament No. 15 of 1972 and has been catering to the professional and academic advancement of Chemistry in Sri Lanka ever since.

The vision of the Institute is “To uplift the quality of life for a better world through the advancement of chemical sciences” and its mission is “To be the center of excellence in chemical sciences for the socio-economic development through education, research, and innovation”

As it prepares to step into a brand new year oriented under the theme “Shaping careers of chemists through the advancement of chemical technology”, the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon has set itself on a new trajectory. In celebration of its 79th Anniversary Celebration, the Institute is proud to announce the International Conference on Frontiers in Chemical Technology, abbreviated as FCT 2020, the first of its nature to be held in Sri Lanka. Bringing together participants from all around the world, the Conference will be held from 17-19 June 2020 at the Galle Face Hotel, Colombo.

The main domains of the Conference include; Chemical technology in food and agriculture, Electrochemical and sensor technology, Alternative energy sources for sustainable development, Nanotechnology for sustainable development, Engineering technology in the chemical industry, Innovations in drug discovery and development, Technological advancements in cosmeceutical, nutraceutical and herbal product industry, Modern challenges in environmental and green technology, Genomics and metabolomics and Innovative strategies in chemical education.

Through FCT 2020, the Institute wishes to achieve several targets, while bearing the best intentions towards global development. The introduction of latest technological innovations to the chemical industry, establishing a platform for chemical inventors to commercialize their inventions, paving a means of bringing economic benefits to the country, updating the chemical society on frontiers in chemical technology, provoking interest in young chemists towards developments in chemical technology, and providing an opportunity for the professional development of women chemists are the specific aims that the organizers’ aspire to satisfy.

To grace the event, the Institute has had the privilege of inviting renowned personalities representing the field of academia and the industry. Prof. Leslie Gunatilaka, Director, Natural Products Centre, University of Arizona, USA will be attending as Chief Guest of the event.  Prof. Ashok Pandey from the CSIR-Indian Institute of Toxicology Research, India, Dr. Sarah Thomas from Royal Society of Chemistry, UK, and Prof. Neelakanthi Gunawardena, Director, Semiochem Lanka (Private) Ltd. are eminent individuals who will present their keynote addresses on versatile areas of their expertise. The plenary speakers are renowned academics from Sri Lanka, and those who are affiliated with prestigious Universities in India, USA, Japan and with institutions such as the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry and the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.
