The Sri Lanka Army Infantry Regiment together with Sri Lanka Association of Racing Drivers and Riders (SLARDAR) will conduct the 17th Vijayabahu Motorcross today, with the event scheduled to flag off at 9.00am at the Boyagane Vijayabahu Regiment track in Kurunegala.

The best rider will emerge after 13 events in which over 125 riders, including foreigners, are competing. The fleet of star riders include the famous Japanese Tomayo Suzuki and finest riders from Thailand Apuchi Rumjana and Saharan Pampon testing their might on the 2.1km long racing track.

The winner of each event will be given cash prizes of Rs. 50,000, while the runners-up will take away Rs. 30,000, 25,000 and 20,000 according to the way they finish finish. Star Rider Ishan Dassanayake clinched the title last year, while Buddhika Kasun Silva recorded the longest jump.

During the past 16 editions of the Wijayabahu Supercross series, Gayan Sandaruwan has won the championship four times while Nalin Perera, Ananda Wedisinghe, Ishan Dassanayake and Japanese Tomayo Suzuki triumphed on one occasion each.

Sameera Premaratne, Asush Thanabe (Japan), C.S. Santhosh (India) and K. Pradeep of Sri Lanka have won the Best Rider Award once.

Air Voice Wireless Company has come forward as the main sponsor while Singer Sri Lanka and People’s Bank join in as the co-sponsors for this year’s Wijayabahu Supercross.
