SL Air Force to celebrate 68th anniversary from Mar.2-6

The Sri Lanka Air Force will celebrate its 68th anniversary on March 2, with a special Exposition and Air Tattoo at the Higurakgoda Air Force Base, which will run from March 2-6, said SLAF Media Director Group Captain M.D.A.G. Seneviratne, at a press conference held last week. A number of Formations and Units will be represented at the Exposition, with numerous stalls.

At this year’s “Air Force Day” two flying Squadrons, No.7 Helicopter Squadron and No.8 Light Transport Squadron will be awarded the prestigious President’s Colours, in recognition of their outstanding service to the nation. Up to date, the SLAF has been awarded the President’s Colours 9 times. The Air Tattoo, open to the public free of charge, will also see demonstrations by the newest addition to the SLAF family in the form of the ‘Blue Eagles’ Aerobatic display team.

“The annual “Guwan Hamuda Papadhi Savariya” Cycle race will also be held for the 20th time this year,” said, Sir John Kotelawala Defence University Vice Chancellor and Chairman SLAF Cycling, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Pathirana. The Race will take place from March 1-3, and cover a distance of 414 km. The Men’s race will be held in 4 Stages spanning 3 Days, while the Women’s race will be held on March 3, and cover a distance of 64 km.
