The LECTRA Sri Lanka Golf Union Grand-Prix 2019 sponsored by Apparel Technologies, commences February 12, at the Royal Colombo Golf Club Course. The event concludes February 15.

The Apparel Technologies of the Bobbin Group of Companies takes over the reins of developing and promoting Sri Lanka Amateur Golf from UTE Sponsors for the past few years named the Pin Fernando Grand Prix.

They have come on board with renewed technology to support Sri Lanka Golf, taking the development of the sport to the next level.

They enter the golfing arena in Sri Lanka at an opportune moment, on a winning note when M.U. Chanaka Perera won the 131st Sri Lanka Amateur Championship Title for Sri Lanka, last week.

The tournament will comprise monthly events open to all Amateur Golfers, played over 4 stroke-play rounds, eligible for WAGR (World Amateur Golf Rankings) under the watchful eye of the R&A (Royal & Ancient) governing body of world golf. Each and every year the top ranked Amateur Golfers in the world are ranked on merit performance of the year by R&A and are invited by qualification on Rankings to participate in the APAGC (Asia Pacific Amateur Golf Championship) annually, played in world class venues globally.

2018 Winner of the Annual Grand-Prix was G.P. Sisira Kumara, who became the Runner-up of the recently concluded Sri Lanka Amateur Championship, whilst 4th Ranked M.U. Chanaka Perera clinched the champion title and status for 2018.

Sri Lanka Golf Union, the governing body of Golf in Sri Lanka has pursued a monthly 4-Round event for the development of Amateur Golfers and the Monthly Events comprise an Annual Grand-Prix titled Pin Fernando Grand-Prix over many years. The SLGU Grand Prix has been the platform for the Amateur Golfers of Sri Lanka to be ranked internationally. Mithun Perera, K. Prabagaran and N. Thangaraja all past multiple winners of the SLGU Grand-Prix, prior to bursting in to the Professional Tour bringing much credit to Sri Lanka as golfing ambassadors.

“Twenty-four-year-old M U Chanaka Perera, the new Sri Lanka Amateur Golf Champion among the other past Champions who are successful Professionals today, are all products of this Grand-Prix formula,” said SLGU Harsha President Abeywickrema.

Nadisha de Silva, Consultant New Business Development Apparel Technologies of the Bobbin Group of Companies, speaking on the occasion welcomed the opportunity to partner the Sri Lanka Golf Union in developing the sport of golf.
