The Army came from behind to elbow out the Navy, thanks to a late, decisive penalty by Gayan Salinda, by 27 points (2 goals, 2 tries, 1 penalty) to 25 (1 goal, 3 tries, 1 penalty) in a second round match of the Dialog League Rugby at Welisara yesterday.

The Navy, who had a better first half, led at the break, 17-14. Prop Kasun de Silva opened scoring in the tenth minute. His try was put over by skipper Thilina Wijesinghe. Army’s Shehan Silva did the same for his team and Isuru Medagedara added the points. Thilina Wijesinghe took centre stage with two tries in the 27th and 32nd minutes. Medagedara scored Army’s second try and converted himself.

After Chathura Seneviratne had gone over for the home team, fly half Gayan Salinda touched down for Army’s final try. He showed nerves of steel when called upon for the deciding penalty. Over it went, and the Army had recorded their fourth win of the season, after a giant killing performance against Kandy SC at Nittawela last week.
