1st centurion Sachin Devage’s 125 runs to no avail
The 8th ‘BMW-Hyundai’ Trophy, Prestige Automobile (Pvt) Ltd. sponsored MCA ‘C’ Division 50-Over League Tournament 2019 got off to a start last weekend.
The 1st centurion of the tournament, Sachin Devage, who hit a gutsy 125 runs in 132 balls, inclusive of 6 sixes and 12 fours, went from hero to zero, as his team JL Morison (JLM) went down convincingly to Nations Trust Bank (NTB) ‘A’ by 5 wickets, with 5 overs to spare.
Match-winners for NTB ‘A’ were Dulanja Silva 77 in 93 balls and Sajith Perera 69 not out in 95 balls, who put on 157 runs in 166 balls for the 5th wicket.
But the real batting star in the tournament openers was Asher Warnakulasuriya of Pyramid Wilmer, who scored 85 vs Peoples Leasing and followed it up with a gritty 92 vs HNB Finance.
The tournament will continue this weekend with a card of 4 matches.
