In a month of varied musical offerings, the “Russian Classical Music Duo in Colombo” which takes place on December 18 at the Lionel Wendt Theatre at 7 p.m. features two rising stars in the Russian music scene – Izabella Andriasian and Dmitrii Miachin in an evening that celebrates the rich heritage of Russian classical music.

The box plan for this concert is now open at the Russian Centre in Colombo, 10, Independence Avenue, Colombo 7 from 7a.m. to 7 p.m. Tickets are priced at Rs. 2,000, 1,500 and 1,000.

The Russian duo, soprano Isabella and pianist Dimitrii will also perform at the Lattice – Lobby lounge of the Taj Samudra on December 13 and 14 from 7-8 p.m.

Izabella Andriasian

An award-winning soprano Isabella most recently carried away the first prize, in the XI Zara Dolukhanova International Vocal Competition “Amber Nightingale” (Kaliningrad, Russia), adding to her long list of accolades. She and Dimitrii were trained at the N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov St.Petersburg Music College and she also studied at the Elena Obraztsova International Academy of Music.

Dmitrii, who hails from a family of musicians ( his father graduated from the N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov Saint Petersburg State Conservatory piano department,  and his mother is a choir conductor, graduate of the Saint-Petersburg State University of Culture and Arts) won the All-Russian Glinka Competition in Moscow at age 11, won the international Chopin Competition in St. Petersburg in 2011 among his many honours. He has performed both solo and in the ensemble at some of the largest venues of Russia and the world, such as the Great Hall of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, the Smolny Cathedral (St. Petersburg), K.Bayseitova National Theater (Astana, Kazakhstan), Sunport Hall Takamatsu (Takamatsu, Japan), Sheremetev Palace, the concert hall of the Kazan Kremlin and many others.
