A video/short film competition on epilepsy is being organized by the Epilepsy Association of Sri Lanka (EASL) to mark World Epilepsy Day which falls on February 12, next year (2019).

Under the competition now open, with the deadline being December 31, the EASL invites all those interested to create a short film of less than 15 minutes showcasing five themes related to epilepsy. The themes are:

  •    Epilepsy is not a curse/psychiatric illness: It is an illness due to abnormal brain activity.
  •    If medications are taken properly a majority of the patients with epilepsy can lead a normal and productive life.
  •    Epilepsy is not always present as vigorous body jerks, it can manifest in different ways.
  •    Many famous people have lived with epilepsy and had highly productive lives.
  •    Epileptics should never be maltreated or socially isolated, instead we need to protect and care for them.

The first prize winner will receive Rs. 200,000 in cash, the second prize winner Rs. 125,000 and the third prize winner Rs. 75,000.

All those wishing to submit entries are requested to register online at www.easrilanka.org.

The EASL is a charitable non-governmental organization established in 1989, with the intention of improving the quality of life of patients with epilepsy.
