The three winners of the ‘Klick and Win Photo Contest’ Zahra Makeen (First Prize of Rs. 25,000), Aaqib Asmone (Second Prize of Rs. 15,000) and Sharban Packeerally (Third Prize of Rs. 10,000) were felicitated at a ceremony held recently.

The winning entries were titled ‘Building the future’; ‘Help each other to create a better world tomorrow’; and ‘Let them chase their own light of life, it’s their future not yours’ respectively.

The photo contest organized by the Rupee Fund of the Sri Lanka Malay Association (SLMA) as part of its 65th anniversary commemoration activities was in celebration of Universal Children’s Day. The theme of the contest was ‘Children our future resource’.

The awards ceremony was held at the SLMA’s premises at Padang, Kew Road, Colombo 2, with the National Child Protection Authority Deputy Chairperson, Attorney-at-law Sujatha Kulatunge presenting the prizes, along with SLMA Rupee Fund President Al Haj A.R. Pallie and Project Chairman Iqram Cuttilan.

A special gift voucher from Odel was presented to Basher Ahmed for the first entry received.

The contest which was launched on October 23 calling for photographs of children along with captions based on the theme drew 60 entries from different areas of the country.

The SLMA Rupee Fund was inaugurated in 1953 and became a government approved charity in 1956. It has carried out a yeoman service to people in Kompanyaveediya. Currently it has a scholarship programme for needy undergraduates and Advanced Level students and an elders’ fund to disburse a monthly sum to deserving elders and runs a pre-school of 60 children from underprivileged families.
