Lihini Perera of Colombo was the best women's slicer

The 5th Inter University Invitational Carrom Championship 2018 came to close on a high note at the Kelaniya University Sports Grounds recently. In this highly successful event, sportsmanship, bond and the camaraderie exhibited by the future citizens of Sri Lanka is an object lesson to the younger generations of this tiny island.

Named ‘Grip to Grip’, this annual tournament was organized by the Kelaniya University Physical Education Division where over a four hundred sportsmen and women representing all universities of the island participated. The event was conducted throughout two days under the supervision of the Carrom Federation of Sri Lanka.

Moratuwa University Men’s team sliced through to win the Men’s Team Championship while the Women’s title was won by the Colombo University Women’s team. Manuka Ashen of Moratuwa University and Lihini Perera of Colombo University were adjudged the Most Outstanding Players in Men’s and Women’s categories respectively for their outstanding performances right throughout the tournament.

Lihini Perera won the Best Players award for the third time in succession while Colombo University Women’s carrom team won the women’s championship also three years in succession. Moratuwa University men’s carrom team won the Men’s Team championship forthe second successive time.

The organisers never forgot to felicitate the Sri Lanka Men’s carrom team that won the World Carrom Trophy and the Sri Lanka Women’s carrom team who finished as runner-up at the 5th World Carrom Championship. – Lakshman Ranasinghe
