Taylor Swift signs new record contract with Universal and Republic

Taylor Swift has signed a new worldwide record contract with the Universal Music Group (UMG) and Republic Records. The deal will be for several albums including streaming for the multi award winning artist. She took to social media on 19th November to announce her new contract and thanked her old label Big Machine with whom she had worked for 12 years, and believing in her as a 14 year old. She posted a photograph with Sir Lucian Grange of UMG and Monte Lipman of Republic Records on social media.

 

Ariana Grande’s break up song dominates the charts

The UK singles chart top 10 was active largely with the two break up songs doing very well. Pop singer Ariana Grande’s break up song ‘thank U, next’ continued to dominate as it held on the No:1 position firmly for a second consecutive week with combined sales of 95,000. The song had the highest streams for a single week this year of 9.76 million. Grande co-wrote ‘thank U, next’ with Victoria McCants and Tayla Parx. The song producers are Tommy Brown, Charles Anderson and Michael Foster.

Meanwhile the other break up song ‘Without Me’ by Halsey move up on the top 10 from 9 to 6.

 

Panic grips Lil Pump concert in UK

Panic gripped the concert of US rapper Lil Pump on 16th November at his concert as an unknown substance was released into the audience at the Rock City Club in Nottingham, England where 2000 people had gathered to see him perform. The incident occurred at around 9.30 pm according to reports in which four people required sustained injuries as the emergency services responded. He later got on to the roof top of his tour bus to finish off his show. Lil Pump has been the featured artist on the recent Kanye West hit song ‘I Love It’ and collaborated with the late XXXtentacion and Maluma on the hit song ‘Arms Around You’.

 

Memorial service for Avicii

A memorial service for the life of Avicii or Tim Bergling (his real name), was held on 16th November. Hundreds of his fans joined his family and friends in the bitter cold, at the baroque Hedvig Eleonora church in Stockholm, Sweden at which his father paid a tribute. A choral version of his hit song ‘Wake Me Up’ was played at the end of the service according to reports.

Avicii died by suicide aged 28 last April while on holiday in Oman. He had been struggling with mental and other health issues.

 

Freya Riding’s song bounces back on the charts

Freya Ridings song ‘Lost Without You’ bounced back on to the UK top singles chart from 12 to 9. In the 18 weeks the song has been on the chart, this is the second occasion it has been to the No: 9 spot where it peaked. The young artist’s effort is laudable as the track is self-released without the backing of any major recording label.

Cardi B launches clothing line Fashion Nova X

As many pop artists look to opportunities to exploit their brand names, the rapper Cardi B was no exception as she launched her clothing line Fashion Nova X on 14th November in Los Angeles. The items on released were all sold within hours coupled by the fact they were suddenly released online as well.
