‘According to Matthew’ in Lanka and the States

‘According to Matthew’, much-awaited film based on the gripping true events and court trial of Mathew Pieris’ double murder directed by Chandran Rutnam is now being released in English and Sinhala in theatres around the country.

One of the rare feats in Lankan cinema history, the film originally made in English with an international cast will be released in Colombo and Nothern cities while the Sinahala subtittled version will be released in the cities in the South.

The English version tittled ‘According to Matthew’ is now being screened at MC Colombo, Empire Arcade, Liberty Lite, Colpetty, City cinema Mt. Lavinia (4.15), Colombo City Centre, Excel World and Savoy 3D in Colombo while in the North the film will be screened at MC Jaffna, Nelson Trincomalee and Suganthi Batticaloa.

The Sinhala dubbed version of the film tittled “Matthew” will be screened at Regal Colombo, Lido Borella, Himalee Kiribathgoda, Amity Lite Maharagama, Odeon Mt. Lavinia and other CEL  circuit theatres islandwide.

“The film will also be screened in the United States from December 14,” director Chandran Rutnam told TV Times. The film will be released at Glendale for several weeks.

Based on the affair and the murders by Father Mathew Pieris, priest of St. Paul’s Church, the film is made on murder trial proceeding and some of the true events collected by the director who was also personally known to Father Mathew.

A romance and thriller movie is based on true events that took place in and around Colombo in late 1970s.

The priest was convicted of the double murders of his wife (Eunice Pieris) and Russel Ingram, the husband of his lover in 1979.

Former Miss Sri Lanka Universe and Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez makes her English-language debut in ‘According to Matthew’ while Australian based singer Alston Koch plays the protoganist Fr. Mathew.

Produced by Taprobane Pictures in association with Ceylon Theatres (Pvt) Limited, the film is a CEL release.
