Good wins for Colombo FC and Renown

Colombo FC and Renown SC recorded wins in their opening matches of the Dialog Champions League (DCL) 2018 football encounters played yesterday. Colombo FC defeated Upcountry Lions SC 4-3 in their match played at the Kelaniya Football Complex.

The halftime ended 1-1 after W.G.R. Manuja struck the first goal of the match in the 27th minute for Upcountry Lions. Colombo FC equalised when Mohamed Aakib struck in the 39th minute. Soon after the resumption Colombo FC took the lead 2-1 with a goal from Mohamed Fazal in the 46th minute. The match continued without any goals from both sides for almost 40 minutes until Bordrix Dimithri struck one of his two goals in the 80th minute and his second in the 86th minute. Striker Dinesh Abeyratne struck twice for Upcountry Lions — in the 85th minute and 89th minute but failed to succeed.

In a contrasting battle Renown SC recorded an astounding win against Pelicans SC 4-1 at the Baddegana Football Complex. Renown led 4-0 at halftime with all their goals coming during the first half with a hat-trick coming off I.O. Jimoh.

The first goal of the game was scored by Dilip Suraj in the 7th minute while Jimoh struck during the 21st, 30th and 45th minutes. The solitary goal for Pelicans was scored by Cobbinah Godfred in the 88th minute. Five matches of DCL have been scheduled for today.
