Anjali, Randika set new meet records on day three

Two new meet records were established on the third day of the 30th National Youth Games which continued at the Kotawila Stadium in Matara yesterday.

In fact, Anjali Pulwansa of Colombo District had the distinction of erasing a 24-year-old record while competing in the Women’s Over-20 Long Jump final.

She produced a fine performance of 5.96 metres and bettered the previous record of 5.79 metres held by S. A. Soysa of Kurunegala District way back in 1994.

The second record of the day was shattered by Randika Gunathilaka of Kegalle District where she won the Girls’ Under-20, 100m Hurdles with a splendid performance.

Randika powered her way to win the Gold Medal with a time of 15.24 seconds and shattered the previous best of 15.50 seconds held by B. S. Dulakshi of Gampaha District.
