Gotabaya to be indicted tomorrow in Permanent HC

Former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa and six others have been served with notices to appear in the Permanent High Court trial-at-bar tomorrow in connection with the alleged misappropriation of funds for the construction of the D.A Rajapaksa memorial museum.

They are to be served indictments on the same day. The charges against the former Defence Secretary and others are that they misused funds belonging to the Sri Lanka Land Reclamation and Development Corporation (SLLRDC) for the purpose of building the memorial museum at Medamulana, Weeraketiya.

The others to be indicted are former SLLRDC Chairman L.A. Prasad Harshan de Silva, former SLLRDC General Manager Badra Udulawathie Kamaladasa, and former SLLRDC directors Sudhammika Keminda Atygalle, Saman Kumara Galappatti, M.D. Mahinda Saliya and M.A. Mallika.

The amount alleged to have been misappropriated is Rs. 48,563,929.06. Charges have been framed against them under the Penal Code and the Public Property Act.
The three-judge Permanent High Court comprises Sampath Abeykoon, Sampath Wijeratne and Champa Janaki Rajaratne.
